Margaret Carr & Isla Patterson at Bungendore Fine Art
Allsorts Exhibition 9 - 25 March 2017
Official opening 4pm Saturday 11 March by Michael Boyle at the Strathnairn Homestead Gallery.
This collaborative exhibition entitled “Allsorts” features the work of nine distinctly different Canberran artists: Anne Balcomb, Stephanie Boyle, Annie Florence, Shakir Rahman, Jenny Robbins, Katie Volter, Debby Gairns and Louise Spencer. These artists have been meeting weekly for over six years to explore and develop their art practice together.
The Allsorts theme allows them to incorporate their unique individual styles and approaches to their work. Collectively the group uses a variety of media that is, acrylics, watercolours, inks and pastels – in fact all sorts of media, and paints all sorts of subject matter.
Over recent years, Anne Balcomb has focussed on painting and drawing and finds her inspiration from the natural environment.
Stephanie Boyle is an artist working in acrylic, oil, pencil and watercolour. Her most regular subjects include portraits, nude and figure painting and fantasy inspired design work.
Annie Florence is very eclectic with her painting style and enjoys using acrylics, inks and collage. She is a keen photographer and uses her photos to inspire much of her work.
Shakir Rahman has always enjoyed drawing, sketching and painting. Recently he has been exploring different mediums, and has found his nook with acrylics.
Jenny Robbins enjoys the fun of freelance painting. Her teaching encourages her to study and explore new techniques and ideas.
Katie Volter’s painting is inspired by just about anything, and has a passion for colour… lots of colour! Her work includes abstracts, landscapes, seascapes, cityscapes, as well life drawing.
Debby Gairns favours working with pastels but she is venturing into other mediums when the opportunities arise.
Louise Spencer has been painting and drawing since childhood. She works with water colours, acrylics and pastels. Her focus for many years has been portraits and landscape but has recently focussed on painting or drawing horses.
The exhibition runs 9 March – 25 March 2017, with the official opening on 11 March 2017, at 4 pm. Exhibition Opening hours are Thursday to Sunday 10 am – 4 pm. http://www.strathnairn.com.au
