Welcome to the inaugural Capital Chemist $1,000 prize for indoor sculpture.  This is an OPEN COMPETITION to be held in conjunction with the Artists Society of Canberra’s “Spring” Exhibition in November 2018. The 2018 Spring Exhibition will be held in the Fitters Workshop, Printers Way, Kingston – next to the Old Bus Depot Market Building and the Canberra Glass Works, from 16 to 25 November. Opening Night and prizes announced 16 November 2018.

 Budding and established sculptors are invited to submit works that must be stable and able to stand freely on the floor or be displayed on a plinth indoors. We urge sculptors to work in the domain of a finished product not exceeding 1 cubic metre in size (variable width, depth and height), and weighing no more than 20 kilograms. NOTE: all sculptures must be able to be lifted or moved by one person and safely displayed at the exhibition.

ENTRIES NOW OPEN but will close on Monday 15 October 2018. Cost of entry $20 for ASOC members and $25 for non-members. All sculptures must be for sale. ASOC will levy a commission of 25% from the sale price.


Artists may enter more than one sculpture. Please complete one entry form per sculpture.  Entry forms may be downloaded to Internet Explorer from, filled in and saved to your device before attaching to an email and send to  Entry fee payment can be made online through PayPal, or by bank transfer to Artists Society of Canberra, BSB  325 185   Account Number   03597907.  Alternatively you may print your completed entry form and post it with your payment to Artists Society of Canberra Inc, PO Box 3629, Manuka Post Office, ACT 2603.


Installation at the Fitters Workshop will be on 15 November 2018.  Remove unsold works on afternoon of 26 November 2018.

It is the responsibility of the artist or an agent of the artist to organise delivery and installation of their work(s).

All care will be taken with entered works; however the Artists Society of Canberra will not be responsible for loss, theft or damage.  Artists are responsible for insuring their own works.  The placement of works in the exhibition will be at the discretion of the ASOC Exhibition Curator.  All risk in the exhibition of sculpture remains with the artist at all times irrespective of whether their work is being handled by a judge or members of the installation and venue committee.  Artists authorise the committee to move their sculpture or remove it from exhibition, if for any reason, including but not limited to, public safety, damage or potential damage to the sculpture or for the cohesive curation of the exhibition.

All the costs of installation and removal to and from the exhibition site, and installation if sold, are the responsibility of the artist.  Interstate artists are advised to make preliminary costing enquiries prior to submission; these costings should include return freight.
